End of year Meme stolen from bleodswean and theun4givables

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?

I almost got arrested for making a miniature fairy house.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? 2014's Resolutions:

Yes and no. Well one of them was to write one three thousand word original story. *Stares at pile of original stories around two thousand words each* I’m counting it as a win.

I have made more for 2015. I’m surprised by my shift in focus, many in 2014 were around doing new and different things, finding new hobbies, doing more sport, meeting new people etc whereas for the coming year everything is writing writing writing, laser focus, put all efforts into writing, because this is what I want to do. There’s also re-connecting with old friends in there, so I think last year was harking towards something new and different, whereas this year harks towards the old and somewhat forgotten depth of passion.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Yes. One of my best friends did, she’s the first one in our friendship group to do so, so we’re all very curious and cooing over the adorableness of cute.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Not this year.

5. What countries did you visit?

None this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?

A published story. A literary agent. Dates.

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

I don’t etch dates on my memory. Though 22nd September when I got my job I suppose, though mainly because I keep counting the days until the probationary period runs out (despite being told repeatedly by others who work there that people who get fired during the probationary period are usually fired in the first couple months).

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I keep scrolling up and down trying to figure out where to put the job thing and where to put the LJI thing. But really both, they both belong here. Next to each other, they both have tremendous value for me as a person and my confidence in my abilities. For the first time I have a decent job that I enjoy and get paid for (I’ve had jobs I’ve enjoyed before but they’ve been unpaid). I remember going through the interview process convinced I wouldn’t get it, but I’m so happy I did and that I can actually do the job.

LJ Idol has been massive for me as a writer. Before this year I was half convinced I’d never get back into the swing of writing original fiction at all, let alone writing it well. And I really proved something to myself with the competition, I just wanted to get to the top 100 and I’m somehow miraculously still in it, which is so unbelievable.

9. What was your biggest failure?

I don’t really feel like I failed at anything this year. It’s been a better year than most of its co-conspirators. Losing weight though, I really need to lose a lot of weight. Because medical issues and also because I’ll look better in photos where cameras add ubiquitous pounds.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No. But I have a shoulder thing, it hurts, it’s annoying.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Iron Man 1, 2 & 3 boxset. Also firefly boxset. Because hilarious and awesome and perfect.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Bah, people.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Bah, people.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Savings account.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

LJ Idol, it’s an experience I’ve enjoyed so much and I treasure it. All of it; the reading, the writing, interacting with the people, the community, watching the polls. Growing as a writer, pushing myself as a writer.

Also everything Marvel-verse: Avengers/Loki fics and Age of Ultron trailers/clips are especially squee-worthy.

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?

Music and Time exist in different wave-streams in my mind, I have no reminders. Except for the Macarena- all 90s children remember the Macarena as an integral part of their childhoods.#notall90schildren

17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?

Happier. Because job and writing.

ii. thinner or fatter?

Thinner, I think.

iii. richer or poorer?

Richer, because proper job.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Writing. Though I did a lot of writing, there are a lot of fanfics that I planned to write and didn’t. And I was planning on then only writing original fiction in 2015. Yeah, that’s not happening. I’ll try to keep original fiction the focus though. Though I realised I began writing fanfic of my novel-verse. It’s an affliction.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Can’t really think of anything. I’ve had too many years where procrastination has been on this list for it to really exist here in a year when I actually got things done.

20. How will you be spending New Years?

Sleeping, sleep is good.

22. Did you fall in love in 2014?

No.

23. What was your favorite TV program?

Sherlock. Because Sherlock and Mycroft, awesome dysfunctional ridiculous brothers who pretend to hate each other so their love can’t be used against them as a weakness. Also loved everything they did with Mary. Also Sherlock was awesome. And Mycroft was awesome. Lots of awesome.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I don’t really hate anyone.

25. What was the best book you read?

Raising Steam

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

‘How far we’ve come’ just speaks to me.

27. What did you want and get?

A job that I can enjoy and doesn’t exacerbate my anxiety issues. Okay, actually it does, leaving the house exacerbates my anxiety issues, but this one does so less than most would. I work the morning shift, which is perfect for me (I’m a morning person and like to have the afternoon to myself also having to get up and go straight to work leaves less time to dwell in wells of anxiety like I did with my afternoon job), and it’s within walking distance and it’s relatively simple (which helps the anxiety also) something I can do well while still being challenging and feeling like I’m doing something good and worthwhile. So pluses all round, I’m so happy. At the same time it makes me anxious, because yeah, I’m me.

28. What did you want and not get?

I’ve been alone for a while and happy in my alone-ness. I’m a solitary creature. But I also like people, and by this point I would’ve liked some sort of relationship. I’m beginning to feel more and more like I’m only capable of being alone. I’m happy with my sexuality and yet fail when it comes to expressing it. I like my body and yet can’t imagine someone else wanting it.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?

Captain America The Winter Soldier

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

A couple of friends came round and we had food. 28.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Having less anxiety. This year has been chock full of good stuff for me, nothing really missing, it would just be great if I could get out of my own way and enjoy it more fully.

But if we’re going for immeasurably, of course successfully writing an award-winning novel and getting hired to write a BBC series- preferably co-writing it with Mark Gatiss. (Note Mark Gatiss and not Joss Whedon because Mr Gatiss and I live in the same country and this in my crazy mind makes it a more realistic, completely unrealistic fantasy).

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?

Ugh fashion. My fashion concept is wear whatever the hell you want and pity anyone who takes the piss out of you for it, because they will never know the awesomeness of you.

33. What kept you sane?

I make no claims of sanity. Wonderful friends and a wonderful support system.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don’t really ‘fancy’ celebrities. I’m one of those people who has to know someone before fancying them, I know, I know that sounds like one of those clichés people trot out, but it’s the truth. On the other hand, Joss Whedon is my God. Also Mark Gatiss is splendiferously awesome.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

Probably Ferguson, I learned a lot more about the situation of racial inequality in America as I was previously unaware of how prevalent institutional racism still was in America. Also I’m perpetually stirred by the current state of changes to our education system, half convinced Michael Gove is an evil mastermind, half convinced he’s the most stupid stupid to ever stupid; I don’t know which would be more worrying.

36. Who did you miss?

No one.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

All my LJ Idol peeps. Because you are awesome. *Waves to LJ Idol peeps*

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.

To not underestimate what can be achieved with enough effort.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I’d like to think it’s this, but it’s possible I’m lying to myself;
Looking back on the things that found me
Places that I'd never choose
The same things that both haunt and heal
My demons and my muse

We are crushed and created
We are melted and made
We are broken and built up, in the very same way
What I thought I could handle
What I thought I could take
What I thought would destroy me leaves me stronger in its wake
