Meme: Questions

Posted on 2013.03.05 at 21:15
I was tagged in this meme and here are my answers, below the cut. Also some questions for people to answer.
The rules; you answer 10 questions, then you make up 10 questions of your own and tag 10 people to answer them.

Questions from upupa_epops

1. Is there anything you never thought you'd like, but then you gave it a shot and loved it?
I usually know what I like and what I don’t, so I can’t think of an activity that has been different to what I thought it would be. But if we’re talking television; The vampire diaries, where watching was purely a feat of; I must watch this before I judge it. Followed ten minutes later by me scouring for preview/sneak peek clips online.

2. Give me a good quote from a book or a fic you just read / are reading right now!
“I spoke to him, and he caught the word as deftly as if I had thrown it. This was the edge of time, between chaos and shape. This was the little bit of evolution that endlessly repeats itself in the young and newborn thing. In this moment there are no cars or aeroplanes. The Sistine Chapel is unpainted, no book has been written. There is the moon, the water, the night, one creature’s need and another’s response. The moment between chaos and shape and I say his name and he hears me.” – The world and other places by Jeanette Winterson.

3. If you could write your own TV show, what would it be about?
It would sort of be Glee with vampires because there needs to be a vampire musical. It would be a magical world where power is created and commanded through sound, and the better the sound the more power there is. But loudness also factors in, but not totally; a finely tuned orchestra would probably trump a solo artist but the solo artist could still trump a cacophony of noise. Yes I’ve come up with an idea with such high production costs as an act of self loathing ;).
Yeah, I have too many ideas for tv shows and all the ideas that aren’t cracky are quite dark and dire.

4. If you were offered a chance to get a hair transplant from anyone of your choosing, whose hair would you steal?
I don’t know, someone with sleek black hair that was like mine but less thick and without the tendency to go Ferrets-trapped-in-a-bush crazy when it’s having one of its mood swings.

5. What was the bane of your (academic) existence when you were in high school?
Design Technology. I have always struggled with the physical action of writing with a pen/pencil but because I always performed reasonably well at school I was deemed okay and it was ignored and I received no help. Which was okay for most classes, I got on with it, took three times longer than everyone else and got stuff done, with a lot of grumping along the way, and a computer which I did all my homework on. But when faced with a class that included producing endless masses of A3 pages full of writing; I went from spending all my time on the class to progressively getting more and more fed up as I got further and further behind and eventually stopped doing any work in lessons entirely. To the point where my benchmark grade (grade I was supposed to be aiming for) was an A and my predicted grade was an F. And my Tech teachers were freaking out because ‘I was making them look bad’. I ended up with a D and was happy with it.

6. If you could turn one person into a frog, who would it be and what would you do with the frog afterwards?
My uncle, I think he would be happier and so would everyone else in the family. Set it free in a frog friendly place. I should probably feel more guilty about that thought than I do.

7. Do you have any words/phrases you overuse?
Balance. Everything is better in balance. I say ‘like’ more than I’d like to.

8. What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Coconut. I like big extravagant sundaes with waffles and wafers and tall glasses with whipped cream and chocolate sauce and umbrellas; ideally one scoop coconut, one scoop vanilla, one scoop mint or banana; though I don’t think I’ve ever actually had this combo, I could hate it.

9. Harry Potter or Narnia?
Narnia. I read the first Harry Potter book and never really got into it. In my teens I was more into horror fiction like Stephen King.

10. If someone gave you a time machine and told that you can go to any time and any place for a year, where would you go?
Stephen Fry once said a wonderful thing about how the present moment is always the best, because it holds all the moments that came before it; I really think that’s an awesome point. All the knowledge, all the ideas, all the cultures, and fashion trends, technology and inventions, tv and films and music and art, and history, it’s all there, in existence. All there for the exploring, even if we can’t meet the people, or touch the reality. So really I think I’d want a different experience, so I’d go for the future, beyond my life-time so I can’t tamper with myself. But not too far, maybe one hundred years.
But a year is a long time to spend in a place that’s unknown, and I’m not very adventurous, then again I don’t think the past would be a very friendly place for someone like me; so future it is.

I spoke to him, and he caught the word as deftly as if I had thrown it.

I also say "like" a lot. Together with "kinda" ;).

I approve of your uncle plot. I thought about my family members, and I decided I sympathize.

I know, Jeanette Winterson is always so pretty :).

Family do have a special capacity to be annoyances :D

Oh, what a fun meme! It both gives and takes - lovely!

Narnia for me, too. I did, finally, come around to HP...but it took me five books and writing fanfic...I do have wonderful memories of a long June spent on the lawn while my eldest read one of the books to my youngest.

I've never tried coconut ice cream - will have to remedy that.

Winterston, yes!

Aww your oldest reading to your youngest does sound cute :).

Yes, try coconut ice cream, it's awesome!

I don't post memes on my LJ (sorry), but at the same time I didn't just want to leave you hanging, so I'm replying to the 10 questions here.

1. Talk about something you enjoy doing when you’re not in fandom.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'in fandom'. I enjoy both reading and writing... Writing might be classified as 'in fandom' since I write fics, although I have been trying my hand at Original Fiction lately. And are books 'in fandom'? Or would it be that fandoms are created around books? I'm not sure.

2. If the apocalypse began, what would you do?
Honestly? I have no idea. I really don't. Maybe I should make a plan or something. You know, in case of the zombie apocalypse or any other kind of apocalypse. I feel like this is something I probably should have thought of before Dec 2012 just in case I was wrong.

3. One piece of advice you would give your thirteen year old self.
I don't really have anything... Maybe that I should relax with the Buffy obsession and that there is life after Season 7.

4. If you could meet any fictional character, who would it be and what would you do?
OH GOD! What a hard question!!! Oh my god, who to pick, who to pick!? Uhm, (Teen Wolf') Derek Hale so I could lick him everywhere. Or (TVD's) Klaus... so I could lick him everywhere. Maybe (Smallville's) Oliver Queen so I could lick him everywhere. Or (Lizzie Bennet Diaries') William Darcy... so I could lick him everywhere... You know, I think I'm sensing a theme.

5. Something you’ve created/done that you’re proud of.
Created would be a lot of my longer works, especially my Big Bangs because I type a lot and I procrastinate so I usually end up completing it in 3 weeks or less.
Done would be college and getting my BA at 18.

6. Hardest technological device or food or drink to go a week without?
Computer. I am literally attached to one whenever I'm not sleeping.

7. Five desert Island books?
...I don't know what that means. Is that 5 books I'd take with me if trapped on a desert island? 'Cause that would be DaVinci Code, Lost Symbol, Twilight, Eclipse and (at the moment) Pride & Prejudice. But I reserve the right to change my mind about P&P. I only like it 'cause of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, normally I dislike Austen. Also, don't judge me. I tried to pick long books that I've actually read more than once.

8. If you had to be one, what supernatural creature would you be and why?
Vampire. Powerful without being a hairy mess once a month. I could live with a liquid diet. Also, I would enjoy eternity. I feel like I could do a lot with it.

9. Favourite song lyric.
OH GOD, ANOTHER HARD ONE!!! Uhm, probably something off TSwift's RED album since I am absolutely in love with it. (which is strange 'cause I'm not usually a Swift fan). Hmm... "And all I feel in my stomach is butterflies/The beautiful kind, making up for lost time/Taking flight, making me feel like/I just wanna know you better now." or "It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight/To fall in love with strangers/Yeah, we're happy free confused and lonely at the same time/It's miserable and magical" ...Or maybe something from The Saturdays. "If this is love/Then I’m about to hit or miss/We’re both going to get hurt/If this is love." or "I was caught in a place far away from the light/What I saw, I couldn't face/So I closed my eyes" or okay, maybe this one "This is taking all my focus, I can't do this/There's so much you don't know/And I’ve been fighting dark demons/Trying to make way for light/But I just dig myself deeper down/I gotta make it right/Ooh, it's time to talk about truth now". These 2 are from different sections of the same song: "Felt the heat of the fire, caught a cold from the rain/Love just left me standing with nothing but a name/Picked my heart off the ground as I said to the sky/Never will I let somebody ever make me cry" and "Thought that I was a fighter, one of love’s sole survivors/Strong enough to keep my love from breaking me again/But you got my attention, wrote your name on my wall/So I've been laying, praying that you won't hurt me at all/I've been trying to play it cool but I've fallen and I'm all in" ...I'm just gonna stop now. But I love music so this was an unfair question.

10. Favourite type of chocolate?
Uhm, milk?

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this comment even though you don't post memes :).

LOL at all the licking, nice taste.

Ooh, BA at 18, impressive.

Ah, life after season seven, a sage piece of advice. There will be other vampire shows and they will be good ;D.

You're welcome.

HAHAHA! Nice taste. Punny.

It would be more impressive if it somehow equated to an actual job :(

:) As it turns out there will be MANY vampire shows... and movies and books and etc., etc.
